Mexico’s Polanco neighborhood is home to a number of great restaurants, but none quite as original as Bresca. Bresca, which means honeycomb in Spanish, is part of a new wave of restaurants that have their own urban gardens on the premises. They grow herbs and vegetables in the gardens which are then used in the dishes.
Not only is the decor beautiful, but the service is exceptional. The waitstaff is well versed on the extensive wine list and is helpful when it comes to questions about the menu. If you are looking for wines from some of Mexico’s finest boutique wineries, you’ll find them at Bresca. There is a chef’s table which can be reserved for private groups, and it gets better…the chef’s menu consists of groups of ingredients which diners can select and the chef will personally prepare a dish based on those ingredients! This is the perfect solution for groups with picky eaters or those with food allergies. Bresca also has a wine cellar with a private tasting room that can be reserved.
On to the food…I enjoyed the braised shortrib duo, which also included a petite fillet. Everything was cooked to perfection and the stuffed squid appetizer is also a must. You can taste the freshness of all of the vegetables, herbs and spices that are used in each dish. The nice thing about Bresca is that the food is exceptional, but the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere which makes it perfect for business meals, romantic dinners, or a night out with friends and family. Next time you are in Polanco, give Bresca a try and you will not be disappointed!
