San Diego Chefs and Food Network Contestant Join Judges’ Panel to Taste Test the Regional Shrimp Cuisine

SAN FELIPE, MX (October 23, 2014) – From November 7-9, approximately 8,000 locals, tourists and ex-patriates will gather in San Felipe, Mexico for the town’s most popular tradition – the 22nd Annual Shrimp Festival. The event celebrates the Sea of Cortez’s Jumbo Blue Shrimp and is famed for its tastings and street revelry.

The three-day fiesta features wine and tequila tastings, local and regional artists, live musical performances, and cultural happenings. The event spotlights local chefs who serve up their most unique shrimp recipes to a panel of notable Baja and San Diego chefs. This year, the festival attracted the attention of three noteworthy San Diego chefs: Cueva Bar’s Executive Chef, Oz Blackaller; GreengoSD gourmet grilled cheese food truck owner, Chef Gastro Corbala, and consulting chef, Andrew Spurgin, will join the panel of judges.

The San Felipe Marina Resort and Portland-based SeaPort Airlines have partnered for the festival and plan to serve the hotel’s dishes via an original aircraft galley food and beverage cart. SeaPort Airlines recently filed for approval to begin flights from San Diego Lindbergh Field to San Felipe’s International Airport. Upon final approvals, SeaPort plans to fly four days per week and anticipates flights to begin mid-November 2014.

The Shrimp Festival starts Friday, November 7, 6:00 pm to 12:00 am, Saturday, November 8, 12:00 pm to 12:00 am, and Sunday, November 9, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Entry into the festival is free, attendees pay per tasting. 140 hotel and restaurant booths will line the downtown waterfront malecon where patrons savor a wide variety of regional shrimp recipes with live music and entertainment as the backdrop.

San Felipe is two hours south of the Mexicali/Calexico border and approximately a four-hour drive from San Diego, California. Situated between the Colorado Desert and the Sea of Cortez, the picturesque fishing town encompasses its own culinary identity, adventure, exploration, and nightlife.
